I have always pondered this question too. There have been competitions I have won with only a few entries but others where I have won zilch and put in lots of entries. I have never won a huge prize such as a car or holiday yet. I remember reading a blurb on Arnott's Tim Tam website a few years ago about the winners of a competition where they gave away a couple of cars. It was interesting that both women said they had only put in one entry each when I am pretty sure there would have been lots of people who had multiple entries (who can resist buying Tim Tams!). It is like people who put in multiple system entries for Lotto and win nothing and someone will buy a single quick pick and clean up. You can increase your odds but it still comes down to the luck of the draw. I never buy what I can't use and try and stick to my budget. Some weeks I am too poor to enter a purchase to win comp or just can't justify the purchase so I pick and choose. I am still a fan and prefer them over the 25wol or facebook comps.

Mmmm good point @kaybee about buying Lotto tickets. Never looked at it that way before. I've seen stories on current affair shows about professional 'compers' and for example there's a comp on coffee, then they buy 40 jars of it. I just can't justify doing that. If it's something I know we'll use or eat, then yeah a few maybe, but not if it's a new product.
I see a few comps where you need to buy a carton of a certain beer .... all good .... if it's a beer you like, but I'm not gonna spend $50 if I don't even know what it tastes like. lol
As for 'who can resist buying Tim TAms? .... me! I really do not like them at all haha I know, I'm a weirdo .... sweet tooth hubby tells me that all the time lol

It would be interesting to see the stats on how many entries the big winners put in. I can't justify buying umpteen dozen things just to enter a comp either and I certainly won't buy something I am not going to use but there are usually comps that have products I will buy anyway so I figure I may as well enter. Pepsi had several comps running earlier this year and the same people won every one and several from the same family. You could enter 5 times a day so I guess they really must have stocked up on Pepsi. I can't compete with that. I have had quite a few wins like the recent Kellog's comp and I won a $500 eftpos card in the Golden Circle comp. In both of those I only put in a few entries. If you buy 40 jars of coffee or 100 bottles of Pepsi you better make sure you win the top prize just to get your money back!!

Oh and I also am more likely to enter comps that have multiple prizes rather than just one top prize.

Depends on what the product is for me, if it's something I always use then probably a few entries.
When I won a surfboard , 1 entry, McDonald's monopoly surround sound system, 2 entries, local newspaper/McDonald's comp, trip to Disneyland, 3 entries, and no, not a fan of macca's ,but pretty stoked with my wins.

I'm over the 'junk food' comps, I know that much! I usually don't buy this stuff because I eat it, and there's about 3 running at the moment :-( yes I've been eating it

I know roobycat. I have just started a new diet and exercise program so I guess I won't be entering anymore of those comps. I indulged in 2 packets of M&Ms over the long weekend. I did my bit haha.

I saw in the T&Cs for the Big Night in it also cover a few less junk foodie items like Disney produce packs, D'Orsogna deli products, Old El Paso and Mount Franklin water. I'm a bit over chips and biscuits aswell. Although I did go and buy three packs of DeLites today just to enter the comp haha

What I don't like are entries with 100s of votes bought from voting sites, many of them overseas. I don't have a chance so don't bother.

Totally agree, I just lost a voting comp where the winner had THE worst pic and got over 2000 votes vs most other people who had an average of 30. I hate voting comps!! I also was going to enter the toughest tradie hands as well, now won't bother :(

Yeah it's very unfair. Why bother asking for a particular subject at all. May as well just say 'post a photo of anything, and the most votes, wins'. Yep @fourleaf, well known that people pay for votes. @nicky, I won't be bothering either, I've seen some really stupid photos win things too, just because they obviously rig their votes. 'Normal' people just haven't got a hope

the terms are on the back, some dont accept on specific days such as public holidays, sat after 5 or on discount tickets days OR if the ticket says for only specific sessions or cinemas. Otherwise they should accept them

Yes we read all that on the back. All it had was not valid at *a list of* cinemas. Nothing else, and she wasn't at one of those cinemas, but they wouldn't accept them. Just said they 'aren't valid here'. Hmmm interesting

Can you contact the promoter and check with them. It would be in their interest to know if a cinema is not accepting tickets if they are valid. Otherwise it is such a waste.

Yes Kaybee, I was thinking that. No point having them if they're not accepted. The movie has finished now, but I was wondering for future reference. Sis in law goes to movies a lot, so may start entering to win a few tickets, but only if she can use them lol

You're not the only one. I am picking mine very carefully these days...

Basically they just seem to do it quickly. I have seen SEVERAL entries that DID NOT even answer the question and they got picked, OR entries that took a few seconds and were not good at all get picked over lengthy,(obviously not in 25WOLS though), well thought out, clever AND creative entries.

Yep, I'm with you. There's still a very rare FEW good Facebook comps, but wow there's also a lot of junk out there, that you need to share 87 times and tag 5 million people in. I leave those ones alone usually. If it's a decent prize I'll share once or tag one person, but I leave 90% of the others well alone. They're the ones that usually attract the same people time after time after time. You can nearly guess what names you'll see in most of those. And as for answering the question, yes I've seen some very dodgy answers win too!

How about sharing some of the good ones. I'll start with Icon Film Distribution (DVDs) and Organic Times (organic chocolate). I have had very good experience with both of these!

@roobycat It was more curiousity, trick is to leave the thing open in another browser to the one you're on and flick back now and then and press the water and feed. After starting and spending so much time, I was determined to get at least one bag of them. Hope they taste good. Also a box popped up under my tree and I got the chance to enter for a Prize with a written answer so who knows? Don't think I'll be back there, the Magic Tree will just have to look out for itself! :P This Elf has done enough!

Yeah I started off with curiosity too, but patience isn't one of my strong points. Especially when I realised it was only for a bag of lollies so yes, my plant, like the ones at my house ... is dead lol

I managed to finally score myself a bag of jelly beans too.
Not hard to keep the browser open during work and check on it every few hours to top up the food and collect the beans. :)

Oh good! SO many I saw today were breaking every rule. The bigger companies usually do it the right way. It's the smaller ones I noticed that either don't know the rules, or don't care. And sure enough, those same ones, before you even look at the comments, there's names that you just know will be there, over and over and over.
As I said, a lot of them were stuff I don't want anyway, but if there WAS something that someone like me genuinely liked, you wouldn't have a hope because I hate bombarding my friends with, what I call ... Facebook junk mail lol and not to mention I don't have thousands of 'friends'. I just don't understand why it's allowed. Such is life I guess. My b*tch for the day, OVER! lol

Well there's a LOT of them! lol One I saw a few weeks back, had only about maybe 10 entrants?? but all had tagged about 50 people each, in individual posts, and all wrote 'liked and shared'. Seriously! Who has time to DO that! lol I tag my daughter in things I think she'll like, but seeing what I'm seeing more and more with serial taggers, it's no wonder I never win with just one tag. No way am I gonna tag 50 people and share a post 84 times, just to win a scented candle or movie ticket lol

I often get kicked out of surveys on here also, but luckily am a member of a few sites that add up quickly. I am also on disability so I find the surveys a nice chance to earn some grocery vouchers to help with groceries or prezzies etc.

lol totally understand am in the same boat, was top 20 all month and forgot to check comps added before midnight, so got shafted :(

I don't get the game .... I "played" for 20 minutes and have a grand total of about 200 points and 2 beans. That's a ridiculous time investment to "earn" a sample of jellybeans or even win a $20 teddy bear. I can't believe there are people with over 50,000 points! The game is neither that interesting nor are the prizes worth that effort.

Nope...sorry I planted mine medium lol. And even that is annoying and takes forever...
