Lol it went ballistic last night. I played with it just to see what happens, and I got up to 12 fries and cokes and got bored with it. I won't be claiming them. It's a clever 'ploy' really when you see what you have to spend to claim the free stuff which is worth about $2 haha

Lol my friend puts her 3 year old on the phone. She's always up for a chat, but I don't have one of those haha. Anyway, they just rang again, after I rejected them three times already today. I just answered it, asked her to please take me off the list as I'm fed up with getting so many calls per day, and she said 'no problem, I'll take you off', and that was that. Now .... if they ring again tomorrow, they're gonna hear about it BIG TIME! lol

Well this could be answered in two ways. I never enter to win prizes that I don't want, purely so I can sell them. I think that's quite a greedy way of doing things, when the prize may be really wanted and/or needed by someone who will use it, and yes, I would feel horribly guilty knowing I never wanted it in the first place, when someone else DID, BUT! having said that, if I've won a prize as you have that I really wanted, but then find myself on hard times and selling that prize could really help me out at the time, then yes I'd consider selling it. I haven't had to do that as yet thankfully, but there's no point struggling through life, when you have something you could sell to get you out of trouble. I hope that makes sense :-)

The only time I have sold a prize was when I won a double pass to the Future music festival this year through a Pringles promotion. I had intended to go but in the end we weren't able to use the tickets so I sold them through Gumtree at a fairly cheap price. I had so many people wanting them. I probably sold them too cheap but I didn't want to really profit from my win. They cost me nothing but 2 tubs of Pringles. My husband and I used the money to have a night out for our wedding anniversary instead. I don't think there is anything wrong with selling the prize depending on the circumstance. If you were consistently winning prizes purely to make a profit selling them then that may be unethical. Don't feel too guilty.

I don't enter comps to sell things either. Much better to sell it if you need the money badly so don't feel guilty, it's yours now.

We may be broke at the moment but at least we can have indulgent coffee every morning and fake it til we make it :P

Lol @Brooksta21. Atleast you have a happy outlook and that's the best thing to have! I'm assuming you tried Ebay? Or even local cafe's may be interested if it's cheapish? Most prizes ARE grossly over valued though. Some of the holidays I see, I think umm, how did you come up with THAT value? lol I hope you see brighter days soon :-)

Yeah I tried EBay & gumtree but maybe my price is the problem who knows.. The info booklet says warranty is only an option with proof of receipt of purchase too so I wouldn't want to buy an expensive coffee machine with no warranty and maybe that's an issue when selling as well. ?
I'm starting to see now that prizes are very overpriced! A quick google search and you find the same product for sale for half the price!

I've sold a few and gifted more. The way I see it - comping as a hobby takes a lot of effort, sometimes its almost work. Work deserves reward - if you need to swap your rewards for cash or other then so be it, generally the promoter has had their right amount of promotion out of you anyway - well prior to issuing prizes.

Yep Brooksta, I'd say that could be the issue. People won't want to fork out a few thousand dollars for something with no receipt and therefore no warranty. If it was $500 I'm sure you'd sell it, but that's cutting yourself short, so you may as well keep it. Good luck. Who knows. You may crack a big cash one soon!! Fingers crossed for you :-)

Crystals are supposed to possess certain elements - I have a large amethyst one by my bed as it's supposed to help sleep and it's really pretty! I'm sure in certain light that one might sparkle more... another compers trash is anothers treasure!? :)

Similar thing happening to me, but at least the company is replying to my emails. They seem to keep delaying things. Saying they have been trying to contact the supplier of the prizes. I have been playing email ping pong for weeks and weeks now.

Very annoying indeed but in breaking news ..... they've finally replied to my messages, saying the standard *yawn* 'oh sorry, we posted it as soon as you won it, so it must've been lost in the post'. To which I've again replied to THEM saying 'well that's funny. I don't know where it was posted to because the original message I sent with my address, hadn't even been 'seen' on Facebook until now.'. This is gonna be a circus, I can tell, but I'm gonna keep at them.

Lol and now ..... "Facebook is funny sometimes depending on which device it's opened on. We'd seems the address, never fear!" Watch this space ..... haha

Hey roobycat, might be worth also checking with the local PO what they do with lost items especially parcels. I'm pretty sure that it's near impossible for things to be lost in the post because POs have such strict tracking procedures that have come in. (I checked on a letter the other day) Once you have this info under your belt, the company will have to chase it up!

Hi @fourleaf! Yes that's the next line I'm going to throw at them, because I live in a small town, and the postie and parcel delivery guys know where everyone lives. I've received many wrongly addressed letters and parcels. So it wouldn't be sitting at the local PO. I think they're just making up excuses. I wouldn't mind betting that my parcel arrives in the next couple of days - MAGICALLY lol

Ughh been through that painful process... no amount of emails and posts on the facebook wall made a difference and they insisted it was sent! In the end I just gave up as it had been months.. really disappointing!

I think it depends really, I know I've seen winning entries ,such as a virgin holidays comp to win a trip to Disneyland and the answer was to be most creative,most relevant etc, and the winning answer was nothing like that at all, I say it was a random draw, which really is stink, especially when how much time is spent on a writing a answer that fits the terms and conditions.

I agree bj. Especially when you sit down and think, I'm going to write something really cool here. You put the effort in and the promoter doesn't commit to what they said they are judging.

Annoying yes but like inwithachance said, you have to be in it to have a chance.

I don't think they are ALL randomly drawn. I heard from an 'insider' that the BIG companies let their 'juniors' go through the entries and choose a hundred or so finalists, and then they are handed on to more senior workers, to choose a winner from those. Smaller comps, I'm sure some are drawn, but I guess we'll never know. Having said that, there was MAJOR 25WOL comp just last week or week before to win $10,000 cash. The winner was announced and it turns out they had not only entered with their 25WOL but had also sent in by mail, a poster with pictures of what they will do with the money. People went nuts about it because the company hadn't stated that mail in entries would be accepted. The companies reply to the many complaints was something along the lines of 'yes it was completely judged on her 25WOL answer, but she went over and above by also sending the collage'. They shot themselves in the foot there, because they practically admitted that they were swayed by what she'd sent in, but said it had nothing to do with it??

I think it depends on the company, the comp and probably even the weather. Have seen some very woeful answers win some very good prizes which can be upsetting after putting in lots of effort. Maybe after a while all the answers look the same. Your right, judges should be following through with their commitment. I still try to put my best answer forward though hoping they are going to be one of the comps judged properly.

Have you ever noticed that when people say they like winter they go on to tell you about the things they enjoy to escape the cold (like fireplaces, soup and doonas). They don't like the cold. Even penguins don't like the cold.

If you're just starting out, enter enter enter!!! Takes maybe 3 months sometimes before anything happens, but once a prize arrives, no matter how small, that spurs you on. Once you get the hang of it, you can pick and choose what you want to enter, like I do now. We've all had times we think no, bugger this, not winning anything so I give up ..... and then something arrives, and BAM, off you go again. I suggest giving it 6 months with entering everything you find, and see how you go. You eventually get a hint of how things work, and depending on what you want to win, when you get something that you reallllly wanted, it's an amazing feeling :-) Oh, and always ALWAYS read the rules first so you don't disqualify yourself without realising. Good luck!

First thing is to ask yourself what type of 'Comper' you want to be and how much time you can afford to spend.

Is it about the prize or the win, just for the sake of winning something even if it's junk?

If it's all about the win then you'll need to enter a lot of comps, taking up a fair bit of time. I'm retired and I don't know where I'd find the hours to just sit at the computer chasing down all those Facebook giveaways and other competitions, day in, day out.

Winning a fridge magnet, cheap cap or a free ticket to a movie on the other side of Australia just doesn't give me a thrill.

If it's useful and worthwhile prizes that you're after then you'll be picky like me and others and not enter that many, however for the WOL comps you'll have the time to put effort into submitting a good entry for a decent prize that you really want and believe me, they are very winnable.

Also what @Roobycat said, take the time to read the T&C. For Facebook giveaways don't just assume the business is located in Australia if it isn't obvious that it is, check then check if the giveaway is open worldwide. Personally I never enter a comp that's open worldwide, as others have won and have never received their prize but that's up to you if you want to take the chance.

I probably only check out the comps on here every month or couple of months and if I look at 20 - 30 I probably only end up entering two or three of them as once I've read the T&C especially with the win a trip ones, I hit the back button or as in the Facebook ones if they're tag and share and share some more or the prize just isn't worth the effort to jump through a heap of hoops, I also back out.

Wow. You sound EXACTLY like me, @pickycomper. I don't understand the 'share this post 500 times and tag 800 friends as often as you like' to win, what I call ... 'landfill prizes', but as you said, it depends on the individual. Lots do it, and they're happy, so good on them. With what I enter now, if I win, I know it's something I really want and/or need, and will be happy with it. And yes, the T&C's, especially on holiday comps, are VITAL. One I saw recently was a ONE WAY ticket to (can't remember where but let's say GERMANY) and two nights 3 star accommodation for ONE PERSON. Yet the 'heading' screamed 'WIN A TRIP TO GERMANY' so it would've been easy to get caught. I've found so many loopholes and things in terms and conditions, and given that comp the flick straight away. I refuse to 'win' a holiday, and then have to spend an extra $2000 or more of my own, to take it.

All of the above, be persistent, try to think outside the box, then try a little more.

I think you have a right to know who won the competition. If they are legit then they shouldn't have anything to hide.

Well I emailed them. I just thought bugger it, I want to know lol! They answered pretty much straight away, that yes it had been judged and the winner notified. They received thousands of entries (obviously), and he said mine made him laugh a lot, so if he actually remembers my entry, I hope that doesn't mean I was close, but not close enough! That would annoy more than just not winning haha always the bridesmaid .........

You could probably add Jack Media to the list as well. They seem to do the same thing as Cohort Digital, only they don't offer a skip option or actually tell you that you've been successfully entered. Yes, I've always gotten phone calls from Cohort, even when I choose the No option, so I'm always weary of entering. On all of them, I now tend to enter the competition on the first page, and as soon as the questionnaires pop up I just close my browser. I've noticed emails sometimes come to me saying I've been entered, just by completing my details on the first page. Sometimes, the first page of the questionnaires say that I've been entered as well. Either way, I no longer fill in the questionnaires as it is asking them to give your details to the related company regardless of what answer you give. Also, I've never heard of anyone actually winning the competitions, so I'm still in the dark as to whether or not they are real competitions.

I'm very careful with what I enter. If I get a 'survey' that I have to do to 'complete my entry', I also just close the window. When I first started doing this competition bizzo, and was learning my way around, I accidentally clicked 'yes' to hear from Real Insurance .... oh my GOSH they HOUNDED me, 5 or 6 calls a day until I finally just blocked them!! Never ever again will I do that. I now never fail to read terms, especially if there's not much info on the page, and I have to say I very very rarely get any telemarketing calls

Hi Judynjo, There are lots and lots of comps out there which don't need you to fill out surveys :) , I enter the ones without the 12 pages of questions after making the mistake of filling one out and getting endless calls after I said no to everything. If you do, the trick is to hit the skip or next button without answering any questions. If they call I say no early on in the conversation and ask to be removed from their calling database list which they must do or they can be reported. These are really hard core marketing campaigns and in the beginning it took me a while to work out which comps these were. Most comps are ok. Good luck with your comping :)
