How can one enter the competition?To enter, participants must upload their entry via the link www.bestaustralianyarn.com.au during the competition period. Entries must be a single story of no more than 2500 words, original, independent work of fiction, written in English, unpublished, and not submitted elsewhere. Comic Prize entries must follow specific digital submission guidelines.
What are the prizes and the total prize pool amount?The competition offers eighteen cash prizes, awarded based on skill, creativity, and originality:
- First prize winner: $50,000
- Runner-up/second place: $4,000
- 8 x shortlist winners: $1,000 each
- Regional winner: $3,000
- Navitas ESL Prize: $3,000
- First Nations Storytelling Prize: $3,000
- 4 x Youth Prize winners (across different categories): $1,500 each
- Comic Prize winner: $3,000
The total prize pool value is up to AUD $80,000.
Additional Terms and Conditions- Entries must comply with all submission guidelines to preserve anonymity and ensure a blind judging process.
- Entrants must be the original authors of their submissions, which should not infringe any third-party rights.
- Winners may be required to participate in promotional activities, including interviews and photography, without additional compensation.
- West Australian Newspapers reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed offensive or in breach of the competition rules.
- The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Prize winners will be contacted within two business days of the prize announcement and must provide valid identification and bank transfer details to claim their prize.
