Just in time for the school holidays comes the DVD release of the heart-warming family film, Oddball. Swampy (Shane Jacobson), is an eccentric chicken farmer in the small Victorian town of Warrnambool. Just off the coast is Middle Island, a sanctuary once home to thousands of the world’s smallest penguins, until foxes learned to cross the shallow channel from the mainland. The rapid decline in penguin numbers jeopardises the penguin sanctuary and the job of park ranger Emily Marsh (Sarah Snook), until an unlikely hero in the shape of Swampy’s mischievous Maremma Sheepdog, Oddball, provides a solution. When Swampy rescues an injured penguin from the island, he discovers to his amazement that Oddball – who can’t bring himself to guard chickens – is an expert at guarding penguins. (RRP $39.95)
