Terms & Conditions: The Travel Book Contest
Here are the terms and conditions which apply to Lonely Planet’s The Travel Book Contest promotion. Please read them carefully, as they contain important stuff you should know.
Who’s running the show?The promoter is Lonely Planet Publications Pty Ltd (ABN 36 005 607 983) The Malt Store, Level 3, 551 Swanston Street, Carlton, VIC 3053 Australia (“Lonely Planet”). Our friends at Tourradar (GmbH ATU 67932437), Siebenbrunnengasse 17/4, Vienna 1050, Austria (“Tourradar”) and G Adventures Inc., 179 South Street, First Floor, Boston, MA, 02111 (“G Adventures”) are our promotional partners.
Information about the prizes and how to enter form part of these conditions of entry. By entering the promotion, these conditions of entry apply to your entry. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be subject to regulatory approval published on the competition entry page www.lonelyplanet.com/travel-book, so you should check these conditions of entry regularly.
These conditions of entry are governed by the laws of Australia.
Can I play?This promotion is open only to those aged 18 years or older at the commencement date of the promotion. The laws in some places don’t allow Lonely Planet to run this promotion, in which case the promotion and these conditions of entry are void in those places. Also, you can’t enter this promotion if you (or your immediate families or housemates) are employed by Lonely Planet, Tourradar or G Adventures, or their subsidiaries and affiliated companies.
How do I play?To enter, go to the landing page – http://www.lonelyplanet.com/travel-book and click on the “Enter to Win” button. Complete the entry form and include your name, email and country of residence. You don’t have to buy anything to enter. If you live outside Australia, you can enter between 00:01 PDT on 6th October 2016 and 23:59 PDT on 31st December 2016, if you are an Australian resident, you can enter between 00:01 PDT on 19th October 2016 and 23:59 PDT on 11th January 2017. You can only enter once ‑ we’ll make confetti out of any extra entries you submit. Your entry is received at the time Lonely Planet receives it. Incomplete and invalid entries will not be accepted. If your entry gets lost in cyberspace or doesn’t arrive for any other reason, that’s not Lonely Planet’s fault.
Lonely Planet might have to extend the dates of the promotion but only if it’s totally unavoidable (for example, if the competition entry page is unavailable for 24 hours or more) and subject to regulatory approval, and we’ll let you know if we do.
How do you pick the winner?The winner will be determined by a random draw of all eligible entries. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. This unenviable task will happen in a small, dark room at The Malt Store, Level 3, 551 Swanston Street, Carlton, VIC 3053 Australia, at 11am on 13th January 2017, AEDT. The draw is random and so no correspondence will be entered into.
Lonely Planet reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in unlawful or improper conduct that is designed to jeopardise the fair conduct of the promotion or is generally damaging to the reputation of Lonely Planet, or has otherwise breached these conditions of entry (as determined in Lonely Planet’s sole discretion, subject to any direction/s given by any relevant regulatory authority).
Lonely Planet can cancel or modify the promotion if there are compelling technical or administrative reasons which we cannot control. If that happens, Lonely Planet will conduct the draw from all eligible entries received at that time.
What can I win?First prize consists of:

AND one of five available travel vouchers provided by G Adventures towards trips with G Adventures (approximate value $132.00 AUD).
Total approximate retail prize value for the contest is approximately $7,708.00 AUD. These prize values are accurate as at the start of the promotion.
How do I find out if I won?We’ll give the winner of the draw the good news by email and their name will be published on the Lonely Planet website on 17th January 2017. If you’re riddled with curiosity, send an email to social@lonelyplanet.com (including the name of the promotion) within 3 months of the date of the draw, and we’ll respond and tell you who won.
Lonely Planet will do its best to find the winner. But if we can’t, or if the winner hasn’t accepted the prize by 13th April 2017, a redraw will be conducted at 11am on 18th April 2017 AEDT, at the same place as the original prize draw. We’ll notify the winner of any unclaimed prize draw by email and their name will be published on the Lonely Planet website on 20th April 2017 (subject to any directions given by a regulatory authority).
If you do win …
We may ask you to provide proof of identity, residency and age, so that we are sure you are who you say you are, and are eligible to receive the prize. We’ll decide whether the proof you provide is adequate (but generally speaking, a certified copy of your passport or drivers’ licence will be sufficient). If you can’t provide, or refuse to provide, suitable proof or otherwise do not meet the eligibility requirements in any way as described in these terms, then unfortunately you will be disqualified, and we will choose another winner (subject to the direction of regulatory authorities).
You can’t exchange the prize for cash, or ask us to give it to someone else (not that you’d want to!). We will use reasonable efforts to award the prize as described but if, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to do that, we’ll substitute another prize of comparable value in our discretion.
You’ll be responsible for all taxes, insurance, travel expenses, most meals, optional activities offered during your tour (see “tour details” on the G Adventures website – NUNN (Westbound): https://www.gadventures.com/trips/music-mountains-monuments-westbound/2364/details/; NUOY (Eastbound): https://www.gadventures.com/trips/music-mountains-monuments-eastbound/2366/details/ ; PID: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/inca-discovery/534/details/; GVM https://www.gadventures.com/trips/sailing-greece-mykonos-to-athens/380/details/; GVAM: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/sailing-greece-athens-to-mykonos/160/details/; DCD: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/south-africa-discoverer/1986/details/; AHEH: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/essential-india/3023/details/; OAAR: https://www.gadventures.com/trips/outback-to-the-red-centre-adelaide-to-alice-springs/2868/details/) and any other expenses, fees and costs connected with that prize that are not included in the prize description.
If, in order to take the prize, you’re lucky enough to need a valid passport and/or other necessary travel documentation and visas, you’ll need to sort those out for yourself (including the costs and finding out what documents you need).
You are responsible for your use of the prize, including complying with any applicable terms and conditions of use including the Tourradar terms & conditions (http://www.tourradar.com/terms-conditions) and G Adventures terms & conditions (https://www.gadventures.com/terms-conditions/). The G Adventures terms & conditions include mandatory minimum medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance of $200,000 USD per person. You must have or obtain this insurance in order to travel on any G Adventures trip. Of course, if you win a prize, you’ll be good and comply with all relevant laws, rules and regulations. To travel with G Adventures, prize winners and, in the case of the Grand Prize winner, their guest must sign a declaration and release to G Adventures in the form provided by G Adventures. Refusal to sign this declaration and release means you are ineligible to claim the prize and a new winner will be selected.
Please note that the nature of the prize may be such that it poses health or safety risks, or risks normally associated with travel to you and your guest (where the prize allows you to take a guest). For this reason, you and your guest should consider any health, safety and travel risks and take appropriate precautions (including arrange insurances) to guard against those risks.
Lonely Planet, Tourradar and G Adventures are not responsible for use of any prize which results in:
(a) loss that was not reasonably foreseeable;
(b) loss that was not caused by our breach of these rules & regulations or by our negligence;
(c) business losses (such as lost data, lost profits or business interruptions) or loss suffered by entrants or third parties;
(d) losses caused by factors which could reasonably be considered to be outside our control (such as faults in third party equipment, or delayed or cancelled flights); and
(e) any loss caused, or contributed to, by your breach of conditions of entry or your negligence.
What happens to my entry?You agree that all of your entry is your own work, and on submission, your entry becomes the property of Lonely Planet.
